Night and Day… In One Photo
|When needing to show both the interior and exterior of a building in one picture, the answer is almost invariably photographing before dawn or after sunset. The light levels will be close, and the sky a deep blue. Everyone loves the results. |
This particular time, however, my clients wanted to show their store at the Mesopotamian revivalist Citadel Mall, in Los Angeles, in daytime, while seeing the windows displays and the store’s interiors. I was also asked to create a panorama combining the structures’ six sides polygonal.
Producing the resulting – admittedly less than entirely realistic – image required combining many exposures, taken both at night and day, and a fair amount of pasting and stitching.
I love the challenges and problem solving that come with being an architectural photographer. If it were easy, my clients would use their smart phones instead.
